Horne Lake Paddle Report - August 25

We started the paddle at Horne Lake under blue skies and calm waters. 16 kayaks and 18 paddlers made their way heading south of the boat launch,

following the shoreline of Horne Lake and into various small bays

on our way to Turtle Rock.

Once we reached Turtle Rock,

we paddled to the opposite shore and back to the boat launch.

The paddle lasted about 2 and a half hours and we ended back at the boat launch where we all settled down at  picnic tables, logs or beach for a well-deserved lunch.

There were very few boaters on the lake and the wind was minimal, so paddling on the water did not seem to take much effort. I am not sure I am alone in that thought, but of the times that we have paddled there in the past, it seems that wind and waves were more of an issue. After lunch, most everyone packed up and headed back home. One late comer and 3 other paddlers headed back onto the water for an additional water experience.

The campground looked full with many campers enjoying the morning sun and warm summer temperatures. This looks like a nice park to pitch a tent or bring your RV and spend a few days if one was so inclined. The only downside was that the last 8 km to get to the regional park was full of small potholes and had the sensation of driving on a washboard. I wonder when the road was last graded.

It was an enjoyable day at Horne Lake, and look forward to doing it again next season.

We paddled a total of 8.77 kilometres and were on the water for 2 - 3/4 hours.
