Brickyard Bay Paddle - May 16, 2023

Today’s trip went well…despite what all the wind forecasts said. It turns out the forecasts for winds were 2 hours behind predicted times….so we got most of the route done before the winds picked up.

Trip participants: Linda W., Linda H., Isabel A., Dave M. (new PGOSA paddler) met at Fairwinds Golf Club parking lot. Loaded kayaks on carts and walked them over to the Park entrance.

Route: - left Brickyard Park at 9:00 – tide about 2:00m – low winds – paddled to Southey Island, circumnavigated Island – plenty of Harbour seals, paddled over to Wallis Point and along north shore of Nanoose Peninsula, along cliff face – encountered a California Sea Lion.

Returned back along cliff face, and wind picked up from the south, so bit of a paddle, till we rounded Wallis point and road wind/waves back to Brickyard Park.

Arrived back about 11:00. Tide lower – 1.7m.

Loaded kayaks on carts and walked back to Golf Club parking lot. After all gear loaded…went into the Clubhouse restaurant patio for a coffee and banana loaf.

I think everyone enjoyed the variety of scenery and wildlife this paddle has to offer.

Cheers
