Spider Lake Report - Sept 21

Once again the weather favoured our group, with almost no wind and a beautiful mackerel sky.

We met on the beach at Spider Lake and noticed that the lake’s water level was much lower than in recent years.

We were a small group for the final Slo-Mo paddle of 2021, with ten paddlers and ten boats.

Before setting off we did some yoga-based stretches, working on our shoulders, spines and hips.  Stretching hopefully allowed us to be more comfortable in our boats for a longer period.  Perhaps we will add the warm-up to our pre-paddle routine next year.

We circumnavigated the lake going clockwise at a very leisurely pace, stopping to admire the lily pads.

There was not much in the way of wildlife other than Canada geese and ducks.

One observant member spotted an osprey. After about an hour and a half, we returned to the launch site to enjoy our lunch at picnic tables. As always during these times, we sat apart but still enjoyed each other’s company. We packed up and headed home after lunch, as the weather started to cool off.  All in all, a lovely gentle end to our paddling season.
