Bob Geig led 14 PGOSA Paddlers on a paddle from Royston Beach to Comox Marina and Goose Spit. Conditions started off somewhat choppy but then calmed down for the rest of the trip.
At the pre-launch meeting Bob gave a brief history of the Wrecks of Royston. These shipwrecked boats formed a breakwater for loading ocean-going ships carrying coal and lumber from places like Cumberland.
We then launched our kayaks and carefully navigated around the wrecks before paddling 3 kilometres to the Comox Marina. We stopped there for about 30 minutes, viewed the many boats tied up at the Marina before crossing the harbour to Goose Spit.
We ate our lunches on the beach at Goose Spit and took in the view across Comox Bay to Comox Glacier and Mount Washington.
After lunch we briefly paddled around to the south side of Goose Spit
before returning to Royston. The tide had fallen considerably since the morning and we had to haul our kayaks a long way back to our vehicles.
After loading our kayaks and gear into our vehicles, we met on the patio at the Royston Roasting Company for refreshments before heading home.
In total we paddled approximately 8 km.
